The Wild Ride of Adolescence: How to Join Your Adolescent in Chaotic Feelings

Dr. Kimber Del Valle will lead us in a discussion about the adolescents' developing brain and what we can do to help them, and us, navigate it. Included in the discussion will be: neurobiology of conflict (what our brain does when we're angry), empathizing with chaotic and big feelings, and how to have a conversation when it feels like only one of us is reasonable.

Kimber Del Valle has a doctorate in clinical psychology.  She has a private practice in Signal Hill.  She spent a decade working with adolescents in various Southern California college counseling centers and loves the adventure adolescents give us.  At the moment, she's on her own wild ride with her daughter, Eden, who is a freshman at Millikan and former IVA student.

Parent Academy nights are "focused on 1) educational theory and practice 2) our Advisory program and helping students towards intellectual exploration 3) developmental psychology of our middle school kids and 4) mindful parenting. Our speakers are selected by the PTSA and IVA Administration together and are inspiring and educational nights that shouldn't be missed.”
