The Lottery Process
IVA is a public, free, non-sectarian charter school with no admission requirements. Any 6th, 7th, or 8th grader from any school district may apply.
Open Application Window
While IVA is open and free to all students, we always have more applicants than space available. Interested families are invited to submit an application from mid-December through mid-March of the year prior to admission. We then host a random lottery to determine which students will be offered a spot at IVA. Those not selected at the time of the lottery and those who apply after the lottery deadline are added to our waitlist. You can review our previous year lottery results below.
How Does the Lottery Work?
Our Application Lottery is a public event hosted annually in April. All applicants who submitted an application before the lottery deadline will be assigned between 1 and 3 tokens:
- One token for applying
- Additional token if you live within LBUSD boundaries
- Additional token if your home elementary school has a high concentration of socioeconomically disadvantage families (55%+)
On the day of the lottery, students whose assigned tokens are randomly pulled first are offered a spot at IVA and the remaining are added to our waitlist in the oder they were drawn. You are invited to visit our YouTube page to watch videos of our previous lotteries.
How does the waitlist work?
Applicants not accepted at the time of the lottery are placed on a waitlist in the order their lottery token was pulled. Those who submit an application after the lottery deadline are wait-listed on a first-come, first-served basis. Waitlisted families that are offered a spot have 24 hours to accept or decline and 48 hours to finalize registration. Attendance is required within 3 days of registration.
All applicants, even those on the waitlist, are invited and encouraged to attend to our Summer Events at IVA.

- December 5, 2025- Applications Released
- March 13, 2026 – Applications for lottery due
- April 2, 2026 – Public Lottery
- May 1, 2026 – Registration due for students admitted in the lottery
2025-26 Waitlist Updates
The 2025-2026 Annual Lottery was held on April 4, 2025 and results were emailed directly to families on April 7, 2025.
As of August 19, 2025:
- 6th Grade: Enrollment for 6th Grade is full at this time. We have offered up to Waitlist Spot #39.
- 7th Grade: Enrollment for 7th Grade is full at this time. We have offered up to Waitlist Spot #1.
- 8th Grade: Enrollment for 8th Grade is full at this time.We have offered up to Waitlist Spot #1.
When there is an available space in the school we will call families to offer the position in waitlist order.
