Wayne is from Sacramento, and comes to IVA with experience as an English tutor, and a high school experience attending a charter school. Wayne completed his BA in English with a focus on Secondary Education, at CSULB. Wayne completed his AA in English Communication and Literature, and an AA-T in English, from American River College. Wayne has a passion for Theater Arts and Creative Writing, and took breadth and perspective courses in both while at CSULB.

"Having spent a semester at a charter school in my high school days, I understand the huge impact a small learning community can have on the individual. I appreciate that IVA seeks to cultivate a true pedagogy rather than the simple, "get them in, get them out" mentality I have seen fostered more often than not at larger public schools. I think every student has a right to learn, and every teacher has a right to teach. Here at IVA, I believe these rights are upheld."

Mrs. V was born and raised in Sacramento, and lived there until 2016, when they moved to Long Beach to attend CSULB. Mrs. V completed a Bachelor's in English Education, and was recently accepted into the Single Subject Teaching Credential Program in English Education at CSULB. In addition, they hold their substitute credentials, and sub at IVA often.

Mrs. V gained experience working with students while holding a position as an office assistant and tutor at Folsom Lake Community College. They were also a tutor at CSULB for a pilot program for college students. While in college, one of the poems that they wrote, along with a digital art illustration, were published in a literary magazine. They were also selected for CHESS (California Higher Education Student Summit), a summit to equip individuals to lobby in Sacramento for changes to the Cal State Program's tuition regulations and requirements.

“I appreciate that IVA invites students to think about perspectives that challenge their own. I appreciate other perspectives and enjoy cultivating that same open-mindedness with students. I attended a charter school, and appreciate an alternative to the traditional school system. My initial and continual desire to pursue education is to relate to the students that find school challenging and may struggle, because of my educational experience being similar."

Patrick was born and raised in Minnesota, and comes to IVA with a musical background and an intellectual thirst for social science, the human mind, humanities and philosophy. Patrick holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Performance from the University of Minnesota and a Master of Music Degree, from the Bob Cole Conservatory at CSULB. He has spent the past ten years as a professional musician and music educator. Patrick has a continuous desire to learn and educate, which was illuminated during his experience as a private music instructor. Patrick enjoys spending time in nature via hiking, camping and backpacking.

"To me, true education is about learning and character-building in addition to test scores and analytics. IVA's mission to instill in it's students a foundation of how to learn and be a productive learner, as well as the importance of the processes of learning via it's nine master virtues, is a thoughtful, pragmatic, and creative approach to education. As an educator, it's difficult not to get excited about working with a school program that values education and growth while still following today's educational standards. We are all perpetual students of life; the wisdom students will gain as a result of IVA's mission can be utilized throughout their entire lives."

"I was drawn to IVA after reading their Master Virtues, my favorite one being intellectual courage- I think that it's important to teach our youth to speak up in the face of fear or failure. I hope to encourage IVA students to speak up for what they believe in and always keep an open mind and heart."
